Peter began his Piping journey in Pukekohe RSA in 1971. In 1978 he joined the City of Auckland Pipe Band while at university and remained a member there for more than 20 years. In city of Auckland, Peter held several offices including President, and eight years as pipe major, during a period in which the band enjoyed some of its greatest successes.
Peter’s work took him to Hamilton in 2006, and since then Peter has been heavily involved with the Hamilton Caledonian Pipe Band. He has played in every grade from 1 to 4B as the fortunes of the band have fluctuated over the years; and has held several offices In the band, including secretary, president, and for a period, pipe major.
Peter has been a practising lawyer for more than 45 years; since moving to Hamilton he has been a leader in a very fast growing and successful North Island based law firm.
Peter brings to the board the benefit of his long and varied band experience, broad professional skills, a lived understanding of the challenges facing bands of all levels, and a desire to give back to the organisation from which he has received so much enjoyment over a long period of time.
A life member of both City of Auckland and Hamilton Caledonian Pipe Bands, Peter is very happily married to Katrina, a retired side drummer, and has a grown-up family. With retirement beckoning, the Duncans are relocating to Waipu in the first quarter of 2025.
