The Management Board discussed potential and real conflicts of interest between the President and duties he has to perform under the National Contest Rules (‘the Rules’).

On advice from the Management Board, the President has made the following delegations:

Judicial Committee Chair and Member

The President is one of five members of the Judicial Committee for the Nationals as per Rule 1.9 of the Rules. The President can appoint another person to fill this position. Iain Blakeley is appointed to this position, alongside the two other Management Board appointees (Peter Duncan and Richard Smith). Peter Duncan shall be the Chair of the Judicial Committee.

Street March cancellation

The President delegates the responsibility of decision making under Rule 4.6 (Compulsory Events) of the Rules to Peter Duncan.

Results recording and approval

Although not governed by the Rules, there is a workflow that has been developed to ensure the accuracy of the results that are announced at the prizegiving and posted online. By convention, the final sign off has rested with the President.

Day One of the Nationals includes the Grade 4B, Grade 4A and Grade 3 music events. The President will retain responsibility for the final sign-off of those results. Day Two of the Nationals includes the Street March for all grades, the Juvenile event, and the Grade 2 and 1 music events. The President delegates responsibility for the final sign-off of those results to Peter Duncan.

Other functions

Any other functions that require delegation from the President to another person will be decided by the Management Board as and if they arise.

Appointment of Music Judges to National Contest Panels

For the avoidance of doubt, the President did not have to cast any vote to break a tie to determine the makeup of the music judges for the National Contest Panels as per Appendix 5, Clause 4.2 of the Rules.
