Two remits to the National Contest Rules have been proposed by the Board as part of the annual remit process.

  • Change to the musical requirements in Grade Four ‘B’; and
  • Clarifying the responsible person for appointing non-music judges for the National Championships.

This is separate from the changes required to the Association constitution by the new Incorporated Societies Act.

A copy of the two remits can be found here.

Timeline of Events

Any change to the rules takes effect on 1 January 2026, unless the Management Board consider it impractical or unfair to implement a change, due to timing, for the 2026 National Contest at Taranaki in March. If that was in fact the situation the rule, or rules, would not be implemented until the 2027 Championships held in Tauranga.

The Executive Officer schedules online Webinars for the discussion of the proposed Remits no later than 30 September 2025.

After the Webinar, the Originator may make changes to the Remit, in light of the Webinar feedback, and withdraws, amends or resubmits the Remit in its original form, via the Remit Proposal link, no later than 14 October 2025.

The Executive Officer then sends all final Remits to Bands, Centres and Management Groups no later than 31 October 2025 for their information.

Member Bands then get the opportunity to vote on each Remit using the online voting form sent to Bands by the Executive Officer by 30 November 2025.

The Executive Officer advises all Members of the voting results by 14 December 2025. A Remit requires a two-thirds majority to pass.
